It's interesting how as soon as something's in your head, you see it everywhere. Our show title is (of course) a commonly known game - but it really seems like the minute we decided on focusing our artistic efforts on rock/paper/scissors, I seemed to notice new references to it everywhere!
Watching TV the other day, an old re-run of Big Bang Theory was on - featuring the 'nerded' up version of R/P/S - a much more more complex rock/paper/scissors/lizard/Spock. (Rock crushes lizard, rock smashes scissors, lizard poisons Spock, lizard eats paper, Spock breaks scissors, Spock vaporizes rock, scissors cut paper, scissors decapitate lizard, paper covers rock, paper disproves Spock.) Even though I am a huge Spock fan, I would completely SUCK at this game. I even came across an article in my school library just before the summer, about a certain kind of lizard whose mating strategies play out like a genetic rock/paper/scissors match; there are orange, blue and yellow males, and given the choice of only two of them, females predictably choose an obvious winner. Blue beats yellow, orange beats blue, and yellow beats orange! And just today, Cheryl Zubrack emailed me a link to an article in Canadian Art - and the R/P/S heading stopped my heart for a second! Interesting article (even though it isn't about our show)! :)
